iQ Web SCADA™

iQ Web SCADA™ is designed to enhance your existing SCADA™ system or replace it. Utilizing a non-polling SCADA™ design, it puts the intelligence in the RTU. This initiates the conversation with the server and pushes data up or pulls down files and instructions. There are no firewall issues to deal with.

 

Power up iQ Web SCADA™, connect to a secure Internet site, download its configuration and start working – providing a true “plug and play” system. Similar to a PC, you can monitor processes running, memory usage and other information related to the health of each deployed device. Our management system provides a powerful backend for managing your enterprise. Tech support does not require a site visit to troubleshoot or make changes. After deployment, software changes can be made to the controller or a group of controllers by simply downloading a file from your browser.

 

iQ Web SCADA™ is a true historian. Your data is logged and time stamped only on change of state and sent up to the central server every five seconds to minimize network traffic. The platform is built to prevent data loss, so if the Internet connection is lost, the host alerts the user, and the RTU keeps logging data locally. When the connection is restored the data is backfilled to the host. iQ Web SCADA™ keeps multiple recipients fully informed on the status of all assets, eliminating the need to constantly monitor widely-distributed equipment or applications.

How It Works

Ready for Deployment

The IQ Web SCADA™ client is loaded on a Red Lion/Sixnet cellular router or IPm controller before being installed. When the target device is connected to the Internet, it automatically registers itself with our server and requests a configuration. It sends periodic status reports indicating system health.

Client-Server

The client initiates all communication to the server. The server never has to "find" the device; the device checks in periodically to download any changes to configuration. Variables to monitor, control programs and software updates are all downloaded at the interval you specify. Have a cellular connection with a low bandwidth limit? No problem. You can turn checkins down to as low as once every 24 hours. Troubleshooting over an Ethernet connection? Get updates as fast as every 5 seconds.

 

Data Logging

At the core of most applications we host are data points to be logged. We're not just monitoring the equipment, we're monitoring a process. Chances are you've got at least a few analog or discrete points you want to monitor. We can poll several hundred points and record changes as fast as every 100 milliseconds. We give you fine grained control so you can see the shape of your data changes. Naturally we also let you write to outputs. Setpoints and state changes are transmitted on the schedule you select.

 

Your Application. Our Server.

An IQ Web SCADA™ application consists of control programs running on the RTU and their configurations (loadable through our Files page), variable tags, alarms and any special templates you need. You can subscribe to instant messages or daily/weekly reports. Our site is the conduit for operating your remote assets.

 

Security

At an application level, the site controls access by group and privilege level. Admins can add and delete devices, load files, set communication parameters and manage variable tag and alarm lists. Writers get to write to setpoints and change discrete states. Subscribers can sign up for reports, including instant message notifications.

 

Wherever possible, communication is encrypted. This includes enforcing TLS in the field device client session, the user session and between the web server and database server. We use encryption to protect our outgoing email traffic, too. Your password is kept in a hashed format.

 

We take security seriously and we view it as an ongoing process. We welcome suggestions for how to improve.

 

Scaling Up

It is easy to get started with one or two field devices and a built-in template. You only pay for what you use: we use a subscription and declining balance system to track the number of active devices you have in a given month and charge your accordingly.

 

As your device network increases in size, you may wish to add custom templates or even have us build apps to run remotely or on the server. If you can imagine it, we can probably find a way to build it on our infrastructure—much faster than you would be able to build it from scratch. Once your device count exceeds a hundred devices or so, we may want to move your project to its own server. You get to pick the domain. Contact us for details and a quote. If you have very particular needs for a special project, the IQ Web SCADA™ platform will run on a standalone server at your location.
